Depending which channels you follow me on, you will either be wondering where the heck I’ve gone or be sick of seeing my face. As you will likely know, I’m currently half-way through the ProVeg Kickstarting For Good business incubator and have just returned from the first in-person week in Berlin.
I am beyond grateful to be awarded awarded one of twenty-five places on an incubator programme that recieved over 430 applications. But that means I’ve had to get comfortable working in the ‘in-between’ spaces to meet all the demands of the programme whilst also running VBT: the staff at my local Starbucks know to tap me on the shoulder at 9.45pm to tell me they are closing else I don’t leave; I spent the time queueing through passport control working on my pitch-doc on my phone; I even set-up a mobile recording studio at the airport to catch-up on my latest content creation whilst waiting for my flight to board
‘Not having enough time’ is one of the biggest challenges our VBT members say they have. But I’ve been reminded these last few weeks that time isn’t the problem, your motivation is. Building a business can grind you down. But when you are focussed and motivated on solving a problem, that time creates itself. Instead of watching that next Netflix episode, you open your notebook or fire-up your laptop. So the question isn’t ‘how do I find more time?’ the question is ‘how do I reclaim the motivation I had when I started?’.
If you’ve been following my vegan business incubator video diaries then you’ll already have some idea of what changes will be coming to Vegan Business Tribe. Our impact can only be measured through your impact – so we only succeed as an organisation if you do and it’s that realisation that’s got me really fired up. But ask yourself the same question, ‘where does your impact and success come from?’ and then link that with your motivation to succeed.
I’m nearly at the half-point of the incubator and have just learned that 50% of us won’t go through to the second half following the midpoint review. I’ll be genuinely gutted if I don’t make it, but in many ways – by reconnecting me with my motivation – the incubator has already done its job.
