The angel and devil at Christmas

Every Christmas I feel like I have an angel and a devil sat on my shoulder. One is whispering into my ear “Hey, it’s nearly Christmas! You’ve worked really hard this year, take the opportunity to slow down, take some time off with the family, you’ve earned it!”. The other is saying “Hey, it’s nearly Christmas! Imagine how far ahead you could get with projects over the break with no-one interrupting you, you’ll be able to get that new course written!”.

My problem is I don’t know which is the angel and which is the devil.

Like many entrepreneurs, I pretend that I maintain a good work/life balance but the truth is I don’t think I know what a ‘good’ balance is. My work is my life. Yes, I take Thursday mornings off to take my daughter Awen swimming, but mainly to give my wife Lisa an interrupted few hours to catch-up on the admin and clear down our inbox. We travel as a family, but usually to be at a vegan expo. I block-out Friday afternoons for myself in the diary, but usually spend that afternoon in a coffee shop on my laptop planning out my to-do list for the next week.

So if you feel yourself being pulled by the same dilemma as we come up to the holidays, know you’re not on your own. If you want my advice, then take a break over Christmas. You have worked hard and you do deserve it. However, imagine how much progress you could make on that project over the holidays with no-one interrupting you…

Sorry! 😇😈
