If you read last week’s update you will know that my wife Lisa and daughter Awen have joined me in Berlin for the ProVeg Incubator for social impact entrepreneurs. They get to explore the city while I spend 12 hours a day at the incubator offices!
However, we have managed to grab some time together as a family and on Thursday we met up with two of our longest-standing Vegan Business Tribe members, Annette and Graham Henry who live here in Berlin. They took us to their favourite vegan restaurant, Trivitys, where we demolished their signature three-tiered ‘brunch specials’ (see photo!).
Although it was only our second time meeting in person, Annette and Graham have become good friends over the past five years. They have been members almost since we launched Vegan Business Tribe and in that time have worked hard to ‘find’ their vegan business. They tried out a number of different ideas until, surprisingly, finding their niche as vegan breathing coaches and, this year, gave up their jobs to work in their business full time. They have been featured in The Berliner magazine and came to the restaurant straight from an interview with the local newspaper – as well as being paid to deliver their breathing workshops by a local college.
Often, the thing you find success with is something that you don’t even know is a thing when you start out. I am sure on the first call I had with Annette and Graham when they joined several years ago, if I’d had said ‘You know, there’s a real market for vegan breathing coaches – you should do that!’ that they would have cancelled their membership there and then. But so often, you learn what works after you launch your business, not before.
You can read more about Henry & Henry on their website here and learn more about Annette and Graham’s business journey on episode 10 of our Vegan Business Revolution series. And if you’re struggling to work out your niche right now, remember sometimes it takes a bit of time and experimenting.
