- MASTERCLASS
going from employed to having your own business
with Trevor Banerjee, The freedom switch
Research has shown that 64% of the UK’s workforce have aspirations to set up their own business (SME Loans Survey January 2020) but the vast majority of people remain as employees. However, the recent pandemic has resulted in a record number of new businesses being registered as people either change career or turn being furloughed into an opportunity to finally take the plunge.
Trevor Banerjee is one of the people who left behind a corporate career to launch his own business. He now helps other people make the same switch through his company The Freedom Switch. In this session, David and Trevor talk about the realities of going from being employed to launching your own business, what you need to consider, how you can break down the steps and how to keep motivated through the entire process.
In this session:
- The realities of going from being employed to then being responsible for everything yourself – from IT to sales to customer care to cleaning!
- The 5 reasons people don’t launch their own business.
- Creating an action plan for launching your business: what are the actual steps you need to take to get from where you are to where you want to be?
- Why, often, the first steps you need to take are smaller than you think.
- How to create the time to plan and launch your business: everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, it’s how you use those hours that is important.
- Why you need to leave your previous mindset and your limiting beliefs behind to avoid sabotaging your business.
- Why researching your market should be your number one starting point.
- Why you should change your thinking away from creating products and services to solving problems.
- Why just quitting your day job to launch your own business is not usually a great idea.
- Why you should prove something works before putting your money / savings / pension pot into it.
- Why you can use your veganism to super-power your motivation to make your business work.
- Why you shouldn’t be ashamed of making money. You can do a lot more good in the world with a profit than you can with a loss.
- Why it’s important to build your own tribe around you of people on the same journey.
- Appreciate that you are at a watershed point in the vegan sector – so think big!!

“Six years ago, when I chose to stop living somebody else’s life, I gave my corporate job the flick and replaced it with a life filled with passion and love. I had my share of ups and downs and I learnt from it all. Now I want to share my learnings with you!”
