I can say with confidence that the companies who were successful stuck with and carried out their plans. They kept the plan visible in the workplace so that everyone could see it. They didn’t deviate. They worked out what they needed to do and did them well and consistently. New and exciting ideas will always come along, but activities are only successful if you actually complete them. There’s no point having a podcast that gets no further than three episodes because you decided to start doing fairs instead. There’s no point having an e-commerce website that is 90% complete but never gets launched because you decided to start a YouTube channel.
Be brutal. Make your plan and stick to it. Make a rule that any new idea that gets your attention goes directly into your next six month review – it doesn’t replace something already on your plan that you haven’t finished yet.
