Influencers with smaller audiences will often feature products for free if it’s ‘on-brand’ for them and you send them a free sample. For some it’s partially a hobby and the free samples they get is all the payment they need. Contact them first to get an address and ask if you can send them a sample of your product. Most who say yes will then create some content when they receive it in return. You can increase the chance of them doing this by making sure that what you send is visually remarkable. Give them something to remark on, put it in some amazing packaging so they can do an unboxing. Lisa and I have done these kinds of videos to support our Vegan Business Tribe members, not because we have been paid but because they reached out to us, had a great product and we wanted to support them.
Be creative. Put yourself in the influencer’s shoes – what can you give them to help them create great content? Can you bring some specialist knowledge that will be of interest to their followers but they haven’t covered yet? Put some effort into helping them with some great ideas, because when you are starting out with your business it’s far easier to use audiences that other people have already developed than waiting until you have built your own.
