Recap, resources and support

What we've just learned

  • Many successful vegan companies are synonymous with their founder(s).
  • People buy from people, not businesses.  And we buy the most from the people we like.
  • Veganism is still a niche, meaning it doesn’t take a lot to get known as the leading figure in your specialist vegan field.
  • You only need to know something the day before someone else for you to be able to teach them about it.
  • Building your personal brand will draw people towards you who are interested in what you have to say and a proportion of those will go on to be customers.
  • We take our expertise for granted but we are all experts in something.  Work out what that thing is and remember that expertise comes at all levels.
  • You know when you have finally developed a successful personal brand when someone else introduces you as an expert.
  • You need to become comfortable being in front of people – be that virtually or in real life.  Confidence is something you learn through practice, not something you just have.
  • Be authentic.  The more of a real human you are, the more your customers will build a relationship with you, your company and your mission.
  • Work on creating credibility by being involved with industry bodies, organisations and publications.
  • Share any speaking events or interviews on your social media channels to show your expertise to a wider audience.
  • If all your customers are familiar and connect with you, you won’t be selling your product to them.  It will be more like a friend giving them a recommendation.
